What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a dermal filler that increases facial volume. There’s a full family of Juvéderm products, each with its own specific applications. Juvéderm fillers all have a common active ingredient -- hyaluronic acid -- although the particle size differs between formulas.

Your body easily accepts hyaluronic acid fillers because hyaluronic acid occurs naturally within your body. However, natural hyaluronic acid depletion can leave you with lines, creases, and a lack of volume. Juvéderm can give the volume back instantly.

What are the different types of Juvéderm?

The Juvéderm formula that Dr. Hanson uses depends on your needs and concerns.

Lines, wrinkles, and folds

If your main concern is facial lines, wrinkles, or folds, Juvéderm Vollure™XC or Juvéderm Ultra Plus™ XC  are great choices. They add volume to areas like the nasolabial folds, the long vertical lines next to your nose and mouth, and can also smooth out the “marionette” lines on either side of your chin.

Lips

Juvéderm can help with lack of lip volume, lip lines, and lip shape. For tiny vertical lip lines, Juvéderm Volbella® XC is a great choice because it gives a smooth and natural-looking result. However, if you want volume or lip reshaping, Juvéderm Ultra XC is a better choice because it’s a thicker formula that gives a more dramatic result.

Cheeks

If your cheeks need volume or lift, Juvéderm Voluma® XC is very effective. It’s mainly used for age-related facial volume loss, but some patients choose Voluma just to add contour.

If you’re concerned about two or more different areas on your face, Dr. Hanson can use an appropriate formula for each area.

How long does Juvéderm last?

The Juvéderm formulas are all temporary, but some last longer than others.

  • Juvéderm Vollure XC: lasts up to 18 months in nasolabial folds
  • Juvéderm Ultra XC: lasts up to a year in nasolabial folds and lips
  • Juvéderm Volbella XC: lasts up to a year in and around lips
  • Juvéderm Voluma XC: lasts up to two years in cheeks

Longevity is also impacted by injection area. For example, any Juvéderm formula injected in your lips won’t last as long as Juvéderm injected in your cheeks because the more frequent movement of your lips makes the Juvéderm disperse faster.

Many patients need less Juvéderm product during later treatments to get the same results.
